ReceiptSnap is a receipt-scanning expense tracker. This policy describes what data the app handles, where it goes, and how you can delete it. Receipt data is stored on your device by default. It is uploaded only when you choose Cloud Backup or send or share a report. Technical subscription, authentication, paywall, and OCR performance data is processed by the services below.
Receipt photos, extracted receipt details (merchant, date, amount, currency, category, notes), expense reports, and your app preferences are stored locally on your device. Your operating system may also include local app data in a device backup, depending on its settings.
Text recognition (OCR) of receipt photos is performed on-device. Receipt images and recognized text are not sent to Google for OCR. The Google ML Kit SDK may contact Google for model updates and bug fixes, and collects device and app information, a per-install identifier, available ML hardware, performance and utilization metrics such as latency, API configuration such as image format and resolution, feature events, and error codes for diagnostics and usage analytics. These technical records do not include the receipt image or its recognized text.
At app startup, RevenueCat and Superwall process technical app, device, store, paywall, purchase, and subscription-entitlement information needed to show subscription options, measure paywall performance, and verify access. These services may assign pseudonymous installation or customer identifiers. Superwall may derive an approximate region, country, or city from the network IP address. ReceiptSnap does not request GPS or precise-location access. We use this information for subscription operation and product analytics, not advertising or cross-app tracking.
When Firebase is available, the app creates a technical anonymous Firebase user identifier used to authorize the optional report-email function. If you later create a recovery account, that same technical identity may be upgraded and associated with the email address you provide.
Cloud Backup is optional. If you create a recovery account, Google Firebase Authentication processes your email address and password credentials. After you verify the email address, ReceiptSnap uploads receipt photos, extracted receipt details, reports, and your default currency to Firebase Cloud Storage and Cloud Firestore. A random installation identifier used for backup diagnostics and conflict handling is included in the snapshot. This data is associated with your account identifier and is used only to back up and restore your ReceiptSnap data. Cloud Backup does not send receipt photos to OCR; text recognition continues to run on your device.
An active Cloud Backup retains the current and immediately previous backup generation so an interrupted update can recover safely. Older generations and images that neither retained generation uses are removed automatically.
When you choose to send an expense report by email, the report's contents (report title, receipt details such as merchant names, dates, amounts, and categories) and the recipient email address you enter are transmitted to our email-sending service, which runs on Google Firebase Cloud Functions and delivers the email through Resend (a third-party email delivery provider). This happens only when you explicitly tap to send a report. The email-send operation does not write a server-side application-database copy of the report; Firebase and Resend may process and retain service or delivery records under their own policies.
Third-party services used by ReceiptSnap:
We require service providers that receive data from ReceiptSnap to use it only for the contracted services and to provide the same or equal protection described in this policy, subject to applicable law.
ReceiptSnap requests camera access (to photograph receipts) and photo library access (to import existing receipt photos). These are used only for capturing receipts and can be declined; the corresponding features simply won't be available.
You can delete individual receipts and reports at any time inside the app. For a local-only profile, “Delete All Local Data” in Settings removes receipts, photos, reports, generated exports, and preferences from that device.
If you created a recovery account, use “Delete account & cloud data” in Cloud Backup. After you confirm your password, ReceiptSnap removes the account's stored backup files and database records from active access, deletes the Firebase Authentication account, and removes the local copy from the device. Google Cloud Storage soft deletion may retain deleted backup objects for up to seven days for provider-managed recovery before they are permanently purged; they are not available through ReceiptSnap during that period. Uninstalling the app removes its local data but does not by itself delete an existing Cloud Backup account.
Deleting app data does not cancel a subscription and cannot erase purchase history held by Apple or Google, or records RevenueCat and Superwall must retain for subscription, security, legal, or fraud-prevention purposes. Manage cancellation in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Service providers may retain limited security, billing, or operational logs as required by law or their documented retention policies.
ReceiptSnap is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If we change this policy, we will update this page and its effective date. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
